Corn Bowl

This carved gourd bowl will will provide an opportunity to try different carving burs to create three dimensional kernels of corn.  Basic Pyrography (simple straight lines) will be taught with the use of Press and Seal.  Project will be finished with color if time allows.

Students must bring:

  • Woodburner (the inexpensive Walnut Hollow works)- blade tip or wedge tip
  • Dremel or other carving tool with the following two burs #199, 116
  • Dust Mask

Wild Horses Bowl

In this class you will learn basic pyrography (simple lines) taught with the use of Press 'n Seal, shaping the bowl rim to match the design, and how to inlay beads by sewing instead of gluing.


Students must bring:

  • Woodburner (the inexpensive Walnut Hollow works)- blade tip or wedge tip
  • Dremel or other carving tool with the following two burs #199, 116

Cut Leaf Bowl

Participants in this class will design a leaf bowl with lid, cutting with a mini jig saw, and woodburning or carving veins. Using leather dyes and guilder's paste participants will color a gourd leaf provided by the Instructor.  Students will not completely finish this project in class, but will have it at least designed and the lid removed.

Students should have some experience with their mini jigsaw.

Gourd Basics

Today artists are transforming gourds into works of art, and you can, too! Projects include a variety of items that change with the seasons. Your class may carve a unique bowl, or create a beautiful birdfeeder, or focus on the holiday of the season. The options are as broad as the instructor's imagination. Whatever the project, you will be amazed by what you create. $40 payable to the instructor on the first night of class for supplies.

Basic Carving

This is a basic carving class for gourd enthusiasts. In the morning, experiment with your dremel and different bur types (instructor will provide practice gourd shards.) In the afternoon carve a specific design on a thick gourd. I have designs for ears of corn (dozen ears on the left), pine cones, and fish bones. Please feel free to bring designs.

You can bring your own gourd or purchase one at class.

Students must bring:

Gourds ...Beyond the Basics

Go beyond the basics (way beyond!) in the gourd class for the experienced gourder. Using a large gourd, learn how to design and carve filigree; inlaid beads or stones; and create sand ripples, hills, and valleys. Click to view examples of what you can create . Supply fee of $25 plus the cost of the gourd you select payable to the instructor at the first session

Shakerie

Create a musical rattle, by tying knots forming a net, embellished with beads, around the gourd. This will be a fun class! Instructor provides all supplies.

Pottery Textures

Experiment with sand and varnish to create a textured surface like Raku.
Color is added with paint and pigments to make a perfect cover for an
